  • GF Stelvio €100.00

An excellent tour for cyclists wanting to experience some of the great climbs of the central European Alps in Italy.  We've included the legendary Passo Stelvio and its 'torturous' 48 hairpins, Passo Gavia, the Mortirolo and many more. Spectacular!  The tour begins in the beautiful city of Bolzano with its incredible mix of German and Austrian culture.  From there we ride through stunning alpine terrain to Livigno and Bormio with wonderful ancient Roman Baths to ease the body.

This tour includes the option to participate in the Granfondo Stelvio Santini!  You will have 'home ground' advantage after all our alpine riding, and the GF is an opportunity to do the last ride of the tour in style.  The Italian granfondos are always an absolute fun day out, with all sorts of riders tackling the well organised short, medium or long Granfondo course.  You don't have to decide which distance you want to do until the day of the event.  When you book this tour, simply select the GF option and we will arrange your registration.

All up, a fabulous itinerary in stunning Alpine locations for an unforgettable cycling holiday!

Day One - Bolzano Warm-up Ride
Main Route: 60km / 37mi
Total Ascent: 900m / 2,950ft
This is a warm-up ride to ease out any jet lag, get those legs moving again and become accustomed to being at a higher altitude.  It will take in some small climbs and offer spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

Day Two - Bolzano to Burgusio
Main Route: 115km / 71mi
Total Ascent: 2,500m / 8,200ft
Today we leave Bolzano and the Dolomites, and ride toward the central Alps and the Stelvio National Park area.  The ride is long but no significant climbs as we ride alongside the Adige river, on a beautiful cycling path. Babbling streams, views to the Alps, what a great day!

Day Three - Burgusio Loop to Stelvio
Main Route: 100km / 62mi
Total Ascent: 2,200m / 7,200ft
The BIG Challenge! This is an out and back ride, riding up the challenging and legendary side of the Passo Stelvio from Prato dello Stelvio.  After a gentle start riding beside a bubbling stream and through alpine pastures, the Stelvio urges you on as you count down the 48 hair-pin bends, enjoying the slight rest at every turn and the truly amazing views.  After a well earned rest at the summit and lots of photos, it's back down those bends, taking your time, to Burgusio.

Day Four - Burgusio to Livigno
Main Route: 90km / 56mi
Total Ascent: 2,500m / 8,200ft
The Stelvio, but this time from the less famous side from Santa Maria in Switzerland.  The climb is long and challenging, but there is very little traffic and the views are incredible.  Last but not least the Passo Foscagno, a long and steady climb which takes us to the lovely mountain town of Livigno, a tax free zone 2,000m above sea level.  Don't forget to bring your credit cards for post-ride therapy!

Day Five - Livigno Loop to Saint Moritz
Main Route: 80km / 54mi
Total Ascent: 1,800m / 4,900ft
A beautiful ride to the famous Swiss town of Saint Moritz, featuring the Forcola di Livigno, Passo d'Eira and Passo del Bernina.... all day 2,000m above sea level! Talk about altitude training!

Day Six - Livigno to Bormio
Main Route: 75km / 48mi
Total Ascent: 1,600m / 4,900ft
Today we will climb the Passo d'Eira, Passo del Foscagno and Laghi di Cancano before we can relax in the ancient Roman spa in Bormio.

Day Seven - Bormio Loop to Stelvio
Main Route: 100km / 62mi
Total Ascent: 3,500m / 11,400ft
We've done two sides, so why not the third and final ascent of the Stelvio?! This is the easier one from Bormio, but that doesn't mean it's easy!  The hot, natural pools at our hotel in Bormio will be the perfect recovery from this ride.

Day Eight - Bormio Rest Day, and Race Registration for those doing the Granfondo

Day Nine - Bormio Loop to Mortirolo & Gavia, or GF Stelvio Santini
Main Route: 75km / 52mi or 150km / 95mi
Total Ascent: 1,850m / 6,000ft or 4,000m / 12,500ft
What a day on the bike, climbing 2 of the most famous climbs in the world and a few others!  Those doing the GF will have a summit finish on the Stelvio, while those on the Bormio Loop will ride Gavia instead of Stelvio.  Either way, an amazing day with celebrations at the final dinner!

Day Ten - Arrivederci!
