FULL ITINERARY

DAY ONE THU 24 OCT | PORTO LOOP ALONG ATLANTIC COAST

Your friendly guides from PuntoTours will meet you at your hotel. They will make sure everyone is comfortable on their hire bikes before leading you out on your first ride.

The majestic Atlantic Sea rolls onto the coast south of Porto. Fresh air and the sound of waves as you ride along the shore, past the Capela do Senhor da Pedra, ‘Chapel of the Lord of the Stone’. Your route then turns inland winding through typical Portuguese houses and small villages, sometimes on beautiful, cobbled laneways amid family vineyards.

A wonderful beginning to your cycling adventure.
DISTANCE | 40KM | 25MI
ELEVATION | 450M | 1485

DAY TWO FRI 25 OCT | DOURO RIVER RIDE

A thoroughly enjoyable ride that follows the Douro River. We leave from the hotel, and before long are riding beside this long, lazy river. The route is undulating, although never higher than 150m above sea level, so that at times you are looking across the river with gorgeous views to the vineyards that flourish on the slopes of the valley.

After a final loop where the Tamega tributary feeds into the Douro, we will arrive at our ride’s end. Here you will have the option of refreshments or lunch. We will then transfer you back to your hotel.
DISTANCE | 54KM | 34MI
ELEVATION | 750M | 2450FT

DAY THREE SAT 26 OCT | AMARANTE RIDE

You have enjoyed the coast and the well-known Douro river. A cycling holiday to Portugal is really not complete without experiencing the magnificent highlands. This is a fantastic ride that showcases the stunning views to the Parque Natural do Alvão.

The ride starts in the beautiful town of Amarante, complete with charming, narrow cobbled streets and well-preserved historic architecture. From Amarante the route climbs slowly along a quiet, leafy road until the vista suddenly opens wide, and the north of Portugal is before your eyes.

Transfer back to your hotel with possible stop for lunch back in Amarante and time to explore the town.

HOW MUCH RIDING DO I HAVE TO DO?

As much or as little as you want. It’s your holiday.  You determine how much you want to ride. You can, on any day, choose to cut a ride short, miss a climb, only do the downhills, have a rest day or ask for more!  The van is always handy if you choose not to ride, and a guide is always willing to do some extra distance if you wish. You just need to ask.

CAN I HIRE A BIKE?

You can!  Check out the details of hiring one of our high-end Cipollini road bikes.
