FULL ITINERARY
DAY ONE TUE 25 AUG | ARRIVAL
Group morning transfer from Barcelona to Tortosa. We will be able to spend time exploring the beautiful town of Tarragona on the way.
Settle into our hotel, housed in an old castle in the heart of Tortosa. We'll ensure the bikes are ready for riding tomorrow, and then enjoy dinner in town. Tour briefing and Welcome!
DAY TWO WED 26 AUG | VUELTA STAGE 5
We're right in the action of Stage 5 of the Vuelta today. While the Pro peloton starts to our east, we will make our way up the official route to Benifallet and on to Alto de Pauls, enjoying the scenery as we pedal. No time for the Pro's to do that. Pick a position to watch the Pro's on the final climb of the day or watch the finish in Roquetes.
Transfer to Benicassim post-ride.
DISTANCE | 70KM | 43MI
ELEVATION | 1000M | 3300FT
DAY THREE THU 27 AUG | VUELTA STAGE 6
The Vuelta comes to play in our own backyard, among the hills behind Benicassim. We will set out in the morning, riding a gorgeous loop to the Sitjar Dam. We can have lunch along the way, and be back to enjoy the racing in the afternoon. Choose to watch them on the climb behind Benicassim, or fight for the finish in Castelló. Who will be leading at day's end?
DISTANCE | 80KM | 50MI
ELEVATION | 830M | 2700FT
DAY FOUR FRI 28 AUG | VUELTA STAGE 7
A great day out riding to watch the start of Stage 7 in Vall d'Alba. The Vuelta heads inland to loftier terrain, while we head back to the coast. You can test your legs on the fabulous road through the Desert de les Palmes, and downhill back to our hotel. Wahoo!
DISTANCE | 70KM | 43MI
ELEVATION | 1000M | 3300FT
DAY FIVE SAT 29 AUG | BENICASSIM TO BENIDORM
Today's Vuelta Stage 8 is a flat stage, so good day for us to make our way to the next centre of action. Perfect opportunity to have our rest day. Transfer from Benicassim to Benidorm, stopping in historic Valencia to explore this magnificent city.
DAY SIX SUN 30 AUG | VUELTA STAGE 9
The Vuelta has a tough stage today with over 3000M of climbing. We have our own big day, riding a superb loop to the peak of the day - Port de Tudons. It will be exciting to see how the favourites are playing out by the time they near the end of the stage. Well earned aperitivo by day's end.
DISTANCE | 75KM | 47MI
ELEVATION | 1850M | 6070FT
DAY SEVEN MON 31 AUG | LOOP RIDE
Rest day for the Vuelta. For us, a beautiful loop ride into the hills west of Benidorm to La Torre les Maçanes. We wind round the Amadorio Reservoir, and then gradually climb, making our way up and over Port del Collao. Although the terrain is dry with olive fields providing an occasional oasis, and vines clinging to what look like parched terraced hills, the scenery is spectacular.
DISTANCE | 80KM | 50MI
ELEVATION | 1750M | 5740FT
DAY EIGHT TUE 1 SEP | VUELTA STAGE 10
The Vuelta could be tilting at windmills today, as the route for Stage 10 ventures into the Castillo-La-Mancha region. We transfer to and from the stage, so we can ride the decisive last kilometres. Choose a perfect spot as the peloton completes a challenging, hilly course in Elche de la Sierra. If timing permits, a visit to the stunning city of Albacete to cap our journey through amazing Spain. Celebrations over our final delicious dinner.
DISTANCE | 65KM | 40MI
ELEVATION | 1000M | 3300FT
DAY NINE WED 2 SEP | GOODBYE
Morning departure for our transfer to Barcelona airport. The journey will be about 5 hours, so plan flights for mid-afternoon onwards.
Time to say farewell, until next time.
Ride safe, Puntos.
